Sport coat: Bold patterns that can make a statement
Hey everybody. I'm Mary. I have a store here in Phoenix called Q. Contrary. I help men and women find clothes that fit and look good. I custom make suits, shirts, jackets. I tailor clothing, I do alterations, and I sell a handful of things here in the store. So my background is men's design. I studied in New York at FIT. I spent about 15 years there designing. And I've learned what it takes to help men and women be effective in business. So come to my store here in Phoenix, I help build a wardrobe for you to help you make the right first impression. Today I want to talk about bold patterns. So everyone kind of hears that word bold and gets a little frightened. But I don't want you to be scared. And I want to show you four great options, a bold patterns that every gentleman should have in his wardrobe or versions of.
And the reason is, is when you have a good gray or blue sport coat, you know, even something with a little texture, that's great. But you want to evolve your look right? You don't want to look pedestrian, you don't want to blend in. And I want to show you four options of ways to kind of step out of the box a little bit and not be too scared and kind of like show some personality and have some fun with your wardrobe. It's too, life's too short to wear the same old boring blue jacket especially if you're going to parties or weddings or other events. On the mannequin is my first sample, right? There's all, this is a great and blue sport coat. It's subtle. It's light. I can't tell you how many gray jackets I made the spring for a handful of my clients and it looks awesome.
And this is a way that, just a little personality and a little style. And I love how I paired it with this soft blue shirts. It's very tonal, very monochromatic, but it's very safe. And this sort of look you can wear with jeans, you can wear it with slacks, you can wear with white pants, gray trousers, blue trousers. Iit's just, it's got a little bit more life to it. Right? I love this sort of look at this sort of tonal look. It's dressy, it's modern. A simple window pane. Okay? It's framed a little bit with the blue, but don't, don't be scared. Every gentleman can pull this look off.
So next look, which is slightly bolder, is probably like 10, 15% bolder than the last jacket I showed you is this blue Brown blazer. Okay. I love this pattern. Again, if you think about it, it's just blue and Brown. Everyone wears blue slacks, gray slacks, Brown shoes. These are classic men's wear colors. Okay? I got, I love how it's paired with a blue shirt, that very kind of tonal, subtle look when you're picking a bolder pattern, make sure the shirt that you wear with it doesn't have a lot of like pattern or color especially if you're more nervous about stepping out of the box and something a little bit more bright.
So pair it with a blue shirt. This would be great with a white shirt. Something more subtle because in your outfit you want the jacket to be the focal piece. When I help clients stress and I put them in something that's a little bit more bold or out of their comfort zone, I tell them to pair it with other things that are more subtle.
So blue jeans, gray trousers, you know, light blue pants is great. Make the jacket the focal piece. All this is is a blue Brown plaid. Classic men's wear, right? This will never go out of style. I encourage my clients to buy something a little better quality and it will last the next about 10, 15 years. You can wear this to the office for client meetings. You can wear this to dinner or out with clients or coworkers in the evening. You can wear this to a wedding, right? Kind of has some fun. It's a party and you'll pair it with a good solid shirt. Throw a pocket square in here, style it up for any sort of parties, weddings, events this fall. I love, love, love this jacket.
For this next jacket I have that I absolutely love as this teal windowpane sport jacket. So don't be so scared of my gosh, teal. It's just another shade of blue. It's a little bit more fashion, but the way I love it is how this plaid throughout it is very, very subtle. It's just the two color to color pattern. I've seen a lot of teal coats this spring. The color is still important for men's wear coming into fall and it's just a little darker, so find the right shade for you in a simple pattern. If you're a little scared about going something more bold, classic men's wear, it has a lot of personality to it and you'd be surprised if you're nervous about a throw a jacket on when you're in a store. Come to my store. I've got a great selection of teal patterns and see how it looks with your color of skin.
I love, again, how it's paired with a blue subtle blue shirt. Like I said before, pick a shirt, pick slacks that are more tonal, more subtle so that the jacket is a focal piece of your garment. When you're looking around at inspiration around, you know, magazines or celebrities or what's on the catwalk or even Pinterest. I actually encourage a lot of my clients to look to athletes when athletes arrived to the game, they always are suited up, you know, a jacket, a suit. They always look fantastic, some of them push the boundaries a little bit, which I love, right? Or some of them are classic.
So when sports are happening this fall or spring, look at even the announcers that are talking about the athletes and the games, they always seem to have great style and they pair their accessories really well. So look at some of them as wearing shades of colors like this, different patterns and men's jackets and suits to kind of give you a little bit inspiration and ideas and what you want to add to your wardrobe. I love looking at them, especially at the ESPY awards or any sort of the Oscars are great too, but I love athletes cause they just have a lot more fun with their wardrobe.
So this next jacket I'm so excited about, right? It's a Berry sport coat with a blue plaid throughout it. I can't tell you how many Berry jackets I made this spring for so many clients. If it was subtle in the pattern or if it was a full jacket completely. This is a fantastic sport coat and it's funny how many customers I actually put this jacket on and they end up loving.
Now at first you're like, Oh, that's too loud. But with men's fashion and your personality in life right now in 2019 it's okay to be a little loud and have a little fun. Yes, maybe you don't wear this to court, right? Or yes, maybe you don't wear it to a conservative, you know, meeting. But when you're out with your friends or you're taking your wife or partner to dinner, or are you going to a wedding or any sort of just like, Hey, it's Friday.
You want to have a little fun, inspire your coworkers at the office wear a little bit of color and here's a great way to do that. This berry jacket is on point. I love the detail, the pattern. Even in the jacket I made. I love the pink stitching that you can see throughout it, but tonal details, but it gives the little, little more life to the jacket. I made a bunch of these for spring. If you're going into fall, you can do a darker berry color. We'll do what's best for you. You can't do a whole jacket in this color. Pick a jacket where the pattern has got the berry color in it.
Gentlemen, I definitely want you to be more adventurous with your wardrobe. Don't get in the rut of wearing the same old blue jeans and blue jacket or gray slacks and gray sport coat. Step out of the box. Push yourself a little bit, add more color to your wardrobe. A nice bold pattern will be a great way to add a little personality, a little style to your wardrobe. And when the compliments start flowing, you can thank me.
