A Beautiful Motorcycle Ride and Crazy Weather
I've gotten out of the rain fortunately but now I have an 80 mile an hour south-side wind. So now you're no longer sitting upright going down the road. You're literally at like a 45 degree angle.
Hey, my name's Justin Pogue. I'm from Phoenix, Arizona and Alaska. I commute a lot. I enjoy motorcycles and I live to ride.
One of my most memorable trips on a road on the Harley. I was headed out to Amarillo, Texas and a buddy of mine out there owns a custom motorcycle shop and builds all kinds of custom bikes. And so I was going out to hang out with him and do some projects. And so I was taking my Road King out and it was… I was cruising down the road and we were about 75-80 miles an hour and got into the rain. And so it literally was a hundred miles in a rainstorm.
I didn't have a tall windshield on it. I didn't have my lower leg fairings on it so it was completely exposed and it was probably only about 45 degrees. So it was pretty cool. And I did that for about a hundred miles and as soon as I got out of that I got about an 80 mile an hour side wind, which was incredible if you ride motorcycles because now I've gotten out of the rain fortunately. But now I have 80 mile an hour south-side wind. So now you're no longer sitting upright going down the road. You're literally at like a 45 degree angle and you're riding like that. And I did that for about 80 miles.
And those of you that ride know that when you're traveling down the interstate at 75-80 miles an hour at a 45 degree angle you white knuckle a little bit and I definitely gets a little tense and a semi will pass you and it throws the air currents all over the place. And it… anyway, that was a pretty fun time, a pretty intense experience.
But one of the greatest parts about that, after I got through all of that, I was dropping down into this valley and there was an overpass and the sun was going down, the clouds had dispersed, and they were just scattered all throughout the sky. So this incredible, beautiful sunset. And so I pulled over and got up on the overpass and just sat there for about an hour, enjoying the sunset. And just the beauty of being out in the middle of nowhere on your motorcycle, completely exposed to the elements and enjoying life. Get out and ride.
