The chill island vibe of Kauai Hawaii
Hey, what's up everybody? My name is Scottie Yang. I'm the owner and designer of Heights Apparel. And this is about my trip to Hawaii.
The vibe of the Island. I mean, what can I say? It's as, as they say, it's, it's Aloha. It's that Aloha vibe it's that laid back chill, go with the flow. I mean, basically everything that I, that's me. And that's one reason why I loved it so much because I felt so at home there.
Everyone's pretty chill, pretty laid back, you know, it's, it's kinda, I don't know if it's different for me and my experience simply because I look a little bit more like a local with my darker my tan skin and like I'm, I'm half Asian so I kinda can blend in a little bit easier which is kind of what I prefer. I don't like to stand out and be like that, that stereotypical tourist type person. But everyone that we encountered was super chill. You know, we hung out mostly a lot at our resort and there's a lot of things that we can do at a resort.
I think one, one call out that that comes to mind is when we were looking to go to Queens bath and Queens bath, the entrance to it is in the middle of the neighborhood. Um, and so that's heavily regulated with parking. And so a lot of the feedback we had when going there was like, get there super early because there's literally four parking spots for you to park at and they don't allow street parking in that neighborhood as a result.
'So we got there right at 7:00 AM when it, when Google maps said, and that's when it opened. And so we got one of those parking spots. Then we saw the locked gates and all these signs say, WARNING, do not enter high tide, low tide, blah, blah, blah. Luckily enough we were like at that point, we were like, we were unsure.
Should we do it? Should we not? We have our kid with us. Is this going to be safe? So we had a little bit of doubt. So we were just standing there and there was a couple of people that were like, what do we do? And literally, because it's a neighborhood right across the street from the entrance is you know, a home. And she, the little, one of the local women that live in that home, you know, was out there working in the garage and she came out and she was like, yeah, you guys should be all good. She even like looked up the tide report for us to make sure that we were going to be okay. She gave us a lot of tips just like go down there if, if the rocks are wet, don't go any further. That means that our recent high tide has come in. You know, very sweet, very nice.
You know, was all about us getting to experience that unique attraction but also making sure that we were going to be safe while doing that. And I was, she did that on her own. She did that on her own accord and that was really cool. Another experience we had, it was kind of a funny little little story is when we, to the resort, I signed up for, for surfing right through the resort and they told us, cool, you're all signed up, make sure your there no later than 8:30. I'm like, cool, no problem. We can do that.
So we got to Hanalei Bay and where the place where we're going to get the surf board and stuff like that, you know. And I was like, okay, let's get there a little bit early just to make sure that we're there on time cause she's stressed it, be on time.
And so we get there, we roll up at like a quarter after eight. And the woman that owns the surf shop, she was like, what? What are you doing here so you're not supposed to be here till till like nine. And we were like, well the resort said to be be on time at 8:30. And she was like, Oh, don't worry about that. You know, it was this, that, that funny little experience of like that's Island time.
That's you know, time on living on an Island is, she was like, "Oh no, I'm not even ready for that." And you kinda know, like, everything's like, operates half hour later than what they should be. But that was our first experience of dealing with Island time employee. And so I thought that was pretty funny as well, much different, you know, living in that city life where everybody's go, go, go, go, go, hurry, hurry, hurry, be on time, this and that. So it was a nice escape from that as well.
